Earlier this year, there was a post about Coke Bottle Footstools on Facebook. What a great recycling idea for a family that puts a few too many into the recycling.
Did some research and got making.
While the end result looks fantastic, the were not really cheep to make, as foam is not very cheep.
How I made ours :
Washed all bottles out and let them dry.
Taped them together into desired shape, then left them outside, upside down for a few days, to make sure they were totally dry inside.(lids off)
Got the man to cut wood circles for the top and bottom. Thicker wood was used on the bottom then the top, then he screwed the wood to the bottles in a few places.
We then wrapped thin ply wood around the outside. That was fun, second footstool went better as I wet the wood first, left it for awhile then warped it around. We used wood glue, to attach it to the top and bottom wood, then nailed and screwed it on, holding it all together with straps and letting it dry for a day.
Put tape around and down join. ( this picture shows what happens if you do not wet the wood first )
Next used spay foam glue, to attach the foam to the top, then the sides, used straps again to hold it together and let dry for a day.
Made a calico cover ( forgot to take a picture )
Then covered in a fabric removable cover
I know we could have made them simpler but with 2 boys in the house, things need to be made strong, or they do not last
Love, love, love how they turned out.
