Today I made a new pincushion for my Daylight light tray.
Does not that look so much better, then the crap coloured one it came with. Sorry forgot to take a before photo, but you will see the colour in the background of the coming photos.
Would you like to see how I made it ?
If you do, keep reading.
First I pulled apart the original pincushion, as I wanted the pincushion puffer, I made the circle bigger then the original one.
Traced a circle onto calico
Placed calico onto fabric, then pinned the 2 together, before cutting out.
Then run a gathering stitch around circle edge, using doubled strong thread.
Pull both ends of thread evenly
Cut out new circles, using old ones as templates, using strong cardboard. Cut slowly and carefully, you will need to cut each line a few times, as it is too hard to cut all the way through in one go.
Ready to stuff.
This bit is fiddly, pull up circle, making sure to hold both ends of thread, add a decent wad of polly fill, now ease in the cardboard base, keep stuffing, holding thread ends and adding more stuffing between starting pieces and cardboard. Having a pair of bent ended tweezers handy, to help tuck stuffing in is helpfully.
Continue adding stuffing until you are happy with the amount.
Pull both ends of thread tight and tie a knot, a second set of hands is needed for this.
I then ran a second gathering thread around edge, to pull it tighter, then worked across base, pulling it all in firmly.
Cut out another circle of fabric, run gathering stitch around edge, then incase other piece of cardboard
Now stitch base to top, inclosing all fabric ends
I then attached pincushion to light tray with double sided foam tape.
Now I can happily crochet at night, with new pincushion to hold my weaving in needles. Now I just need to stop Boo from relocating my needles all the time.
Hugs Audra x
