Yesterday, I decided that I wanted to work out how to make the polka dot cake, that a friend had put on Facebook. So through the technology of google, found someone who had given it a go. http://once-upon-a-pedestal.blogspot.com.au/2012/05/polka-dot-cake-from-bake-pop-pan.html
So with her tips went shopping to buy the required pan
And some gel food colours (could not find natural colours unfortunately )
Special cake nonstick stuff and packet mouse
And cake mix (usually make my cakes from scratch)
Got all required stuff ready and got cooking
Separated mixed cake batter ( cake mix made to packet directions, but using milk not water and half the amount, adding a extra egg and packet mouse, as directed to,in pan instructions) into 6 bowls and mixed in about 2 drops of gel colour.(red is a bit insipid, but the though of adding more made me cringe, maybe next time if boys do not get too hyper from all the food colouring)
Put a good heaped teaspoon into half pan, that I had already greased with pan release.
Cooked for about 18 minutes in a 180 oven
Let cool a little, pulled excess mix of top, waited painfully a few more minutes, then opened
Yes ! It worked. Now to cook the remaining colours
Letting them cool, while making the other cake mix
Tried using 2 half pans but for a multi layer cake, I think you need 2 cake mixes and need to use 3 pans
1 mix in 1 half pan, too full, so transferred to bubba pan
Now for the painful time, waiting for it to cook, then cool, add icing, then wait for the cutting revel.
A rather lumpy result, that I thing is due to the pan swapping
Thought cake would be a bit larger as it is about 1.5 mixes there
Could not wait any longer, iced cake with pre made icing that came in the box and started cutting
Fun with every cut. The trick is to make slices the correct size that you do not miss the polka dots but cut them
Love this one
Not sure about the violet or was that one blue ?
Looking forward to making this cake again, it was fun.
Yes, I know the original cake is in a vanilla one but my family only eat chocolate cake
