Book Review - Candy Crochet by Candi Jensen

 

This book has to be one of my favourite crochet books for little ones, this book is jam packet full of crocheted jumpers, cardigans, vests, dresses, rompers and blankets. Unfortunately a lot of the patterns only go to size 18 months or 3 years, but with the measurements and graphs included, I am sure the patterns could easily be made larger. There is 50 projects in this book so even thought I'm showing you lots of them, there is a lot more in the book.

I actually started one of the jumpers in the book for Boo, in my first weeks of taking up crochet again, when he was a baby, but put it down to start his blanket, well the blanket was made, winter ended and he grew. Also I became unsure of the colours, love been a Aussie and proud of being a 5 th generation one but the jumper just seemed toooo green and gold to me.

Boo's Ripple blanket, made with baby bamboo in Lucy's classic ripple pattern. Baby bamboo by sirdar is a really loverly yarn with fantastic colours and the weight of the yarn makes the blanket snuggle your body. I just wish they would change the 20% wool they use to merino wool as what they use I'm allergic to, so can only crochet with it in the middle of winter.

What's on the Hook

 

Christmas Bubbles. Started these about 6 weeks before Christmas and have gifted 2 sets of Christmas coloured ones.

The white and green ones are missing from this photo.

This set is for my friend Chell, as you can see they just need ribbon but as they are not required at the moment they have not been finished.

This set is for my sister-in-law

All these are for my tree this year, minus any that a friend of my Mum wants to buy.

Yes ! I will finish them soon.

The last few weeks I have been working on my patchwork blanket, unfortunately, during the bubble making, forgot that I had been using a 3.5 hook not 4, so need to redo 4 rows from the bottom and 1 from the side. Bummer.

Nearly finished making all the squares, just have 7 more to make of 2 colours, plus mabe the ones I have to resize.

 

At the moment designing the blanket for our bed, when the ideas hit.

Have decided not to start above blanket until I have finished..........

Big Boy's blanket was started 3 years ago.........and ......... Well........not finished, as I do not have a passion or real like for hand sewing but must finished it as he really, really wants it.

This year I have also made bather top size testers and sent them to Lucinda to see what she likes and fits and holds the best.

Started a cardigan top for my self

Love the design and colours but the circle was getting too big too soon, so worked out the glitches and have nearly made and finished

I think that is everything that I have worked on in the last 3 months, looking at my finishing of list I will properly not start our blanket until May/June . Ahhhh ! I do not want to wait that long. Maybe I could just sneak in al little bit ....... Must be good ...... Must not give into temptation ........ Must in brace the creative inspiration ...... ? ....... :-)

Yarn Shopping

A Birthdays ago I was given yarn money, so I went to "Calico and Ivy" and started a Debbie Bliss Cashmerino stash

This yarn is dreamy and I started a hexagon blanket

Unfortunately, when looking at the blanket at night in the low light, there was not enough colour variation, so I stopped. Unable to but the yarn away I fiddled a bit and made my friend a tea pot cosy for Christmas that year and one for myself.

Then made myself put the yarn away as it is for a blanket, not for luxurious decorations.

After some saving this stash was added to with more colourful balls of yarn

A lot better, but still not quite there as the thought of a whole King size bed in Ripples, Granny stripe or Granny squares, while loverly is not different or radical enough for me.

On Thursday yarn shopping happened again and a loverly lady at Calico and Ivy gave me the push I needed to add Lots of colours. After all more can be better for some projects.

 

While we chose colours I mentioned the desire to make a blanket, with a patchwork quilt feel, so Deborah mentioned having a look at a blog called Clothogancho. Well inspiration was found in http://clothogancho.canalblog.com/archives/2013/01/10/26113498.html

Now just need to finish some works in progress, so that I can get started. I can not wait, I'm so excited.

We will start with some calendar love,

I'm still very much in love with this calendar.

And with big boy's calendar also but no updates shown of the family organisation calendar, as it has stuff written all over it.

On the 1st, Boo and I went to Garden City, to buy things on the book list, school shoes, a bag and a lunch box. While there he begged to be allowed to go Tigger jumping again. How could I refuse his loveable grin and loverly asking, so we went jumping again but this time with 2 of his Grandparents watching.

And there was some great leg action happening

This time it was not as easy to take photo's, as well......., he kept getting so high, so quickly. Consequently there is a lot of photo's of his feet. Next time we also need to take photo's from the other side as this way the glare is too high and makes dark pictures.

Boo and I have also been to the Drags this month, as his Dad works on one of the cars and sometimes helps on others. Both boy's love the Drags, not surprising as Dad is a car mechanic and Boo has been going to the Motorplex (where car racing happens) since he was 7 days old.

This car is a top fuel one, having a test run, the methanol fumes was intense, to say the least, we walked away with tears in our eyes and the taste of methanol in our mouths. Yummm as my man says!

We must get some new earmuffs, as Boo has taken the insulation out of his, he was really good with covering his ears against the noise. Not very easy to take photo's though as my hands were busy with the iPad and the noise so makes you jump, even when you now it is about to happen.

A Change of Routine

Our youngest Boo has now started Preprimary school.

This school is so new that handover was the day before they started.

Their first play equipment has been, being built for the last 2 days.

And half the buildings are still being constructed.

His uniform is smart and practical.

So far all is going well.
